Debi Karmakar is Research Associate at the Centre for Governance Studies. She completed her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in International Relations from the University of Dhaka. Since joining CGS in 2023, she has worked on multiple projects focused on misinformation and fact-checking in Bangladesh, including Confronting Misinformation in Bangladesh and co-led Defending Digital Spaces and Uniting Against Misinformation in Bangladesh. She is research team member for the fact-checking manual What is Misinformation, “The Current State of Fact-Checking in Bangladesh”. and Bangladesh 2024 Election-Related Violence and News Reporting Analysis

 

She co-led the Bay of Bengal Conversation 2023–2024, CGS’s flagship event, serving as lead communication liaison and session coordinator. Alongside, she worked with Bangladesh Nagorik Project in collaboration with CIPE as well.

She is Associate Editor of the Journal of Governance, Security & Development and has published Volumes 4, 5, and 6 (2023–2025) as an editorial board member. She also regularly writes articles and op-eds in national English newspapers, focusing on geopolitics in South Asia, East Asia, Europe, and the Arctic region.
