Since the country's inception, corruption has been a part of the culture of Bangladesh. From hospitals to educational institutions, corruption is entangled in every sphere. A corruption-free Bangladesh is only possible if all the stakeholders are willing to work together. These ideas were discussed by SME owners in a recent seminar organized by the Centre for Governance Studies (CGS) in Rangpur city on Tuesday. The event was arranged in collaboration with the Centre for International Private Enterprises (CIPE), a Washington-based organization, in RDRS Guest House, Rangpur, to discuss the possibility of a common platform to combat the corruption faced by entrepreneurs, said a press release.
According to the present entrepreneurs, SME training should be provided on the root level alongside Dhaka. Strengthening religious sentiments for resisting corruption is essential, as well as a serious need for discussion among entrepreneurs and government representatives to resolve the problems in the SME sector. Regarding the difficulty in getting loans, they suggested there should be separate banks to deal with SME loans with renewed knowledge and policy on this sector. Vat and related tax policies need to be reformed, according to many. The speakers also mentioned the vital role of international platforms in the growth of the SME sector at local level.
