CGS organized the Mymensingh chapter of its fact-checking training series on 5 July 2025 at BRAC Learning Centre, Mymensingh. The daylong workshop was designed to build journalistic capacity in combating misinformation and promoting ethical reporting practices.

The session was led by Qadaruddin Shishir, Editor at The Dissent and former Fact-Checking Editor at AFP Bangladesh. He provided hands-on training on digital verification tools, social media monitoring, and open-source investigative techniques. He remarked that misinformation has become a major force in distorting public discourse and fueling unrest, making it essential for journalists to develop stronger verification skills.

The workshop began with a welcome address by Subir Das, Member of the Board of Directors at CGS, who emphasized the role of fact-checking in promoting ethical journalism. The session was facilitated by Roman Uddin, Research Associate at CGS, with Shamsul Arif Fahim, Research Assistant at CGS, supporting the programme.

Participants also reflected on the gendered impact of misinformation. One female journalist said online harassment against women has become increasingly frequent and that fact-checking is a vital tool to challenge false narratives targeting women. Another journalist suggested that such workshops should be held regularly, including within individual media houses.
