To combat misinformation and promote media integrity in Bangladesh, the Centre for Governance Studies (CGS) hosted a Fact-Checking Workshop on 12 January 2025 at Royal Raj Hotel, Rajshahi. The workshop was organised under CGS’s initiative, “Defending Digital Spaces and Uniting Against Misinformation in Bangladesh,” as part of the Collaboration Lab programme funded by the European Union and administered by Free Press Unlimited and ARTICLE19 Bangladesh and South Asia.

The session focused on strengthening journalists’ ability to verify information, identify misleading content, and respond to misinformation and disinformation in the digital space. Journalists from national and regional media outlets, civil society representatives, and social media influencers from the Rajshahi region joined the programme.

Participants described the workshop as timely and impactful, particularly given the growing influence of digital platforms in shaping public opinion. The training encouraged media professionals to adopt stronger verification practices in their everyday work.

The event also included a Focus Group Discussion as part of CGS’s ongoing study on the state of fact-checking in Bangladesh. During the discussion, journalists shared their experiences, challenges, and recommendations, providing important insights for CGS’s research initiative.
