The Sylhet edition of CGS’s fact-checking initiative was held on 26 January 2025 at Rose View Hotel, Sylhet. The workshop formed part of CGS’s broader programme to build journalists’ capacity to respond to misinformation and promote responsible journalism across Bangladesh.

Journalists from national and local television, print, and online media outlets participated in the training. The session focused on practical ways to verify digital content, assess sources, examine online claims, and reduce the risk of spreading false or misleading information through news reporting.

The training also encouraged participants to reflect on the changing nature of misinformation in Bangladesh. Discussions covered how social media platforms, political narratives, and unverified online content create new challenges for journalists.

The workshop contributed to CGS’s continuing effort to understand the fact-checking landscape in Bangladesh. Participants shared their professional experiences and offered suggestions on how media organisations can strengthen verification practices.
