As part of its nationwide effort to strengthen journalistic integrity, CGS arranged a Fact-Checking Training Workshop at City Inn Hotel, Khulna, on 19 January 2025. The workshop brought together 24 journalists from 22 national and local television, print, and online media outlets.

The programme aimed to improve participants’ ability to verify information, detect false or misleading claims, and address misinformation in their professional reporting. In his opening remarks, Zillur Rahman, Executive Director of CGS, highlighted the importance of fact-checking in protecting public trust and maintaining media credibility.

The training was conducted by Qadaruddin Shishir, Fact-Checking Editor for AFP Bangladesh. He introduced participants to modern fact-checking tools, verification methods, and practical approaches that journalists can use in their daily newsroom work. The interactive session allowed participants to discuss real challenges they face while verifying information under time pressure.

A Focus Group Discussion was also held as part of CGS’s ongoing research on fact-checking in Bangladesh. Journalists shared their views on misinformation trends, newsroom limitations, and the need for regular capacity-building programmes.
