In Rangpur, CGS brought together journalists from 22 national and regional media houses on 29 June 2025 for a practical workshop on fact-checking and misinformation response. The event was held at RDRS Bangladesh, Rangpur, as part of CGS’s ongoing effort to conduct fact-checking workshops across all eight divisions of Bangladesh.

The workshop was facilitated by Qadaruddin Shishir, Editor at The Descent and former Fact-Checking Editor at AFP Bangladesh. He conducted an intensive training session on contemporary verification tools, digital forensic techniques, social media misinformation tracking, and open-source investigative strategies.

Speaking at the event, Shishir said the need for credible fact-checking in Bangladesh has become more urgent, particularly after the 5 August uprising. He observed that misinformation has created confusion, affected public discourse, and increased risks to social stability. He also appreciated CGS’s initiative to bring this training to different parts of the country.

Participants praised the workshop for its practical value. A senior journalist said the session made it clear that fact-checking is now a necessary part of newsroom practice. A female journalist added that the training helped her feel more confident in identifying false narratives and reporting responsibly.
