The Barishal workshop, held on 10 August 2025 at Barisal Club, marked another step in CGS’s continuing effort to build fact-checking capacity among journalists across Bangladesh. The daylong training focused on improving journalists’ skills in information verification and helping them respond more effectively to misinformation.

The training was conducted by Shuvashish Das Ray Dip, Assistant Editor of FactWatch. He provided hands-on instruction on identifying geolocation from images and videos, verifying information from multiple credible sources, and using internationally recognised digital verification tools such as Google Earth Pro, Google Reverse Image Search, TinEye, InVID, and CrowdTangle.

In his remarks, CGS President Zillur Rahman said that in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, fact-checking has become an indispensable skill for journalists. He noted that accurate verification protects journalistic credibility and contributes to a responsible news environment. He also said CGS is working to develop this capacity among journalists nationwide and will continue expanding these efforts.

Senior journalist Anisur Rahman Swapon spoke about the pressures journalists face in the current media landscape. He said reporters are often expected to publish quickly, making verification difficult within a short time. However, he emphasised that journalists must strengthen their ability to use modern tools to verify information swiftly and accurately.
