CGS continued its national fact-checking training series with a workshop on 10 March 2025 at Bishwo Shahitto Kendro, Dhaka. A total of 21 journalists from national and local television, print, and online media platforms participated in the session.

In his opening speech, Zillur Rahman, Executive Director of CGS, discussed the growing threat of misinformation in Bangladesh’s public sphere. He referred to former U.S. President Donald Trump’s claim about a $29 million aid package for Bangladesh under Democracy International as an example of how misleading information can influence public perception. He also noted that misinformation and rumours have increasingly threatened public awareness and social stability since 5 August 2024.

The workshop was led by Qadaruddin Shishir, Fact-Checking Editor for AFP Bangladesh. He guided participants through key verification techniques and introduced tools that can help journalists assess digital information more carefully before publication.

As part of CGS’s ongoing study on fact-checking in Bangladesh, the event also included a Focus Group Discussion. Journalists shared their views on the challenges and opportunities in countering misinformation. During the session, participants were also introduced to CGS’s Fact-Checking Hub, a platform designed to track and compile verified misinformation cases in Bangladesh.
